EFR INSTRUCTOR

During the Emergency First Response Instructor course, you will build on your skill as an Emergency Responder and focus on developing your instructional abilities to teach these skills to others. The Instructor course provides you with the additional training necessary to teach the Emergency First Response Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid) and Care for Children courses. (First Aid at Work Asia Pacific requires additional training.)

 

WHAT WILL I DO? 

The instructor course covers specific goals and performance requirements for the Primary Care, Secondary Care and Care for Children courses, along with instruction on how to structure learning and your role as the instructor in the learning environment. You also learn how to motivate students, evaluate student knowledge, present course content effectively, become proficient in developing students’ hands-on skills practice sessions, and are taught how to present an effective scenario-based learning experience. You’ll also learn to conduct the recommended Automated External Defibrillator (AED), emergency oxygen and conscious choking management skills.

 

To be certified as an Emergency First Response Instructor, an individual must meet the following requirements;

  • Complete the Self-Study Knowledge Review
  • Participate in all (7) required EFR Instructor Course presentations
  • Teach at least two primary or secondary care skills from the EFR program
  • Teach at least one skill from the EFR Care for Children program
  • Demonstrate role-model technique for all EFR program primary & secondary skills
  • Successfully complete the EFR Instructor written examination

 

COURSE PREREQUISITES 

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must have successfully completed both adult and child/infant sanctioned CPR programs as well as a sanctioned adult First Aid program within 24 months (EFR Primary & Secondary Care and Care For Children meet the prerequisites)
  • Or be a practicing medical professional such as a physician, Emergency Medical  Technician, Paramedic and Registered Nurse
